WALK-IN CLOSET
The walk-in closet was built for the story ‘Parent Trap – Closet Style’ as two movable shelving units.
All the shelving is constructed from 1/4″ thick white foam board, flat head sewing pins, glue and wooden dowels.
I wrote down a plan for the closet on paper first (see first photo below).
The louvered closet door was made by folding strips of cut white contact paper and then gluing them to the door. The doorknob is a jewelry bead pinned to the door.
The wood dowels were painted white.
The dresser is a balsa wood pre-made dresser from Joann’s that I’ve painted white, and glued new drawer pulls with jewelry beads.
BOUTIQUE
The Fashion Boutique used in the story ‘Team Husband’ was created with 1/4″ white foam board, wood dowels, glue, white velvet fabric, grommets, and sewing pins.
I also started with a drawn-out plan for what was going to be built (see first two photos below).
The back wall is a 30″ wide unit with several hanging bars for clothes was built, along with two dressing rooms.
I cheated and used two Mattel Barbie closet units for the shoe wall. So I need what I built to match these units.
Silver/White patterned wrapping paper is used on the back of the dressing room walls, then a mirror is placed over that to make it look like a true dressing room.
White velvet cloth has grommet holes and is threaded through a silver painted dowel. I would recommend sewing it so it has neat edges. Mine is cut only because I ran out of time. I make sure to never take photos too close to the material when filming scenes.
If more closet dioramas are created in the future, I’ll make sure to add them to this page.
Thanks so much for reading!
You are brilliant (and your hubby too). It looks like the real thing. I hope it’s okay to pin to my board “tines”. Thanks for sharing.
I am just starting out making Barbie furniture and am really wanting to try my hand at a diorama. Your work is absolutely beautiful. I look forward to seeing what else your wonderful talent creates. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Bonita. I started out sewing doll bedding and selling bed-in-a-box sets which to advertise them I had to build dioramas around them to photograph. Have lots of fun making sets for your furniture. Making the furniture is a lot harder, so kudos to you. Hugs, JATMAN
So cool! It looks great – especially like the two kinds of wallpaper and how you used white contact paper as the trim. Looks great and makes the perfect background to an upscale walk-in closet.
3 light cans pointing down into a space that small! I don’t know what wattage your lamps are, but that must have felt warm while you were filming.
It gets warm in the summer when I film a story, not so much in the winter. The lights are only 60 watt each. A few are 100 watt. Thanks for your comments! JATMAN
You are brilliant and so amazzzingly creative!! Thank you sooooo much for sharing your talents! I’m so inspired to start making my own rooms.
I so admire your work! Your creations are absolutely fantastic! To be able to create these treasures …
Thanks Mercesh! JATMAN
Really brilliant! Love the layouts.
